yes, pick up the head of that guy you just decapitated and hurl it into the prince's legs to trip him up so he can't escape.

I believe this is a good idea. Imagine, choosing from a javelin/hatchets/throwing knives/tomahawk.
Your guy should be able to use the axes/ throwing knives/tomahawks ( I learned from a friend they are just BLUNT, therefore differentiating them from hatchets ). Imagine, weaving in/out of combat with an axe, then rolling back and throwing it at your enemie's face. Slicing a thrown weapon would be possible if you can anticipate it. Your character could pickup useable throwing weapons. I think he should also have a basic rock sling with high ammo as more of a stun weapon. Really, your guy could throw almost anything to stun/put-off-balance an enemy. You lose your axe, so you see a dropped hammer, toss it at the guys face and high-tail it. +1 for customizable loadouts.

Its Ok if the javelineer can choose between multiple throwing weapons, as someone said above, making him the throwing weapons specialist, but an "axe thrower class" would be pretty pointless.

Is it safe to use throwing weapon? I wanna choose the best weapon for me.
